Ex-rutgers stars Devin and Jason McCourty top $1M in fundraising for charity
About 200 donors showed up Saturday afternoon to the annual Tackle Sickle Cell Blood Drive at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. A few hours later, the charity’s Casino Night fundraiser inside Brown Recruiting Pavilion at High Point Solutions Stadium helped reach a major milestone.
Founded by the McCourty twins in 2013 to bring awareness to a disease that affects their aunt, Tackle Sickle Cell now has raised a net of more than $500,000 for Embrace Kids Foundation, a New Brunswick-based charity benefiting children with cancer and blood disorders and their families.
That accounts for about half of the net $1 million raised nation-wide by the McCourtys for sickle cell programming.
