The mission of Sickle Cell Disease Association of America Southern Connecticut Inc. is to provide education, screening, counseling, and support services to persons affected with sickle cell disease and the trait. Its goal is to ensure a network of partners dedicated to promoting a healthy lifestyle for patients with sickle cell disease. Volunteers are needed and welcome.

The S.C.O.P.E program educates students about Sickle Cell Disease and involves developing peer educators in the schools. Financial support of the organization is done by an annual Walk-A-Thon, golf tournament, and corporate and individual donations. Revenue from the Charity Basketball Game is devoted to the Emma Butler Fund. This fund is allocated to helping patients with the high cost of medications and emergencies. Since 1991, the organization has provided support services to patients and their families under the supervision of a social worker.
