The Comprehensive Pediatric Sickle Cell Program at the hospital is a nationally recognized program which has been the recipient of competitive grants from the Health Resources and Service Administration since 1995. The Program is enhanced by funding from New York State Department of Health. Board Certified Hematologists and other personnel provide coordinated care in all settings.
Mission:
To provide coordinated, comprehensive medical care, education and psychosocial support to enhance quality of life of patients with sickle cell disease and their families.
Services:
-Evaluation and genetic counseling for all patients
-24 hour urgent care
-State of the art patient care
-Pain management
-Trans-Cranial Doppler (TCD) screening for stroke
-Phenotype matched transfusions
-Coordination of multi-disciplinary care
-Support groups for parents and young adults
-Patient, professional and community education
-Quarterly Newsletter – The Sickle Star
