At the end of this continuing medical education activity, participants should be able to:

– describe current established transplant options for sickle cell disease.

– discuss haploidentical hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) as a way to increase donor pool.

– outline advances made in gene therapy as potential curative treatment for sickle cell disease.

– examine non-myeloablative haploidentical HCT aimed to achieve mixed-chimerism as means of a cure in patients diagnosed with sickle cell disease.
