World Music & Dance Showcase: Benefit for Sickle Cell Anemia

The Traditional Music Society will be holding its 7th annual World Music and Dance Showcase this spring. We will have guest artists representing various cultures from around the world, such as Spain, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Africa and America. We will have guest appearance by musicians and dancers from the Brazilian Academy Cultural Center, with Ninja Pinto, Ole Flamenco group with Tamara Carson, and Areirto, a Puerto Rican folkloric dance group with Paulette Alejandra. Additionally we will have presentations from the TMS African youth ensemble along with students from the Mary L Kelly Center. This year our event will be a Fundraiser for Sickle Cell Anemia. This is a debilitating disease primarily affects African Americans, who have the trait which can be transmitted to others family members. We are partnering with the Uriel Owens Sickle Cell Disease Association of the Mid West as beneficiaries, in tribute to their efforts to bring about the awareness of this illness and providing badly needed services to those families who are affected by it. Mr. Eric Kirkwood, director of this organization will be our keynote speaker. The event is free to the public.
